ian when you read this i just want you to know that tonight i sat at my computer and thought to myself: it is 2330, i have a public law exam in less than 48 hours and YOU'RE NOT HERE TO BRING ME ON OUR TOP SECRET MISSION!!!!!!! BOOOOO!!!!! and after i typed that i proceeded to pick up my handphone to ring you. see la spend so much time in the wonderful world of wow.
i'm sitting alone in the library computer cluster, because everyone else has laptops - my dad is a dinosaur. if i had a laptop i'd probably be in the canteen now, legs up on a chair, watching the rain and typing notes on freedom of religion and listening to the thunder properly, not through glass windows. and i'm also just too tired for words. the only thing that's keeping me going is knowing that if i go home i'll just sleep and/or watch tv. but i'm really grateful that God created tea leaves.
"God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. and God saw that it was good. and God said, "let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth." and it was so. the earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. and God saw that it was good." genesis 1:10-12.

quentin came to school to watch me study today, thanks dude. :) and i introduced him to the wonders of kaya toast dipped in soft-boiled egg. i don't know how he was living before today.

i think i'm about ready to forgive khong guan for their atrocious tau sar paus - have you tried their sardine curry puffs yet?
on friendship
i'd really like to say, once more, that lester is my bffils: best friend forever in law school. but i recently gave more thought to it, and i think my real best friend in law school is mui kheng. well she was my first real friend in law school at any rate, plus she's a GIRL. it's a bit sad though, because if she was my first real friend in law school, i only found her in sem 2 of year 1. i therefore have absolutely no idea what i was doing in year 1 sem 1.

taken during the latern festival 2006 at a temple in toa payoh - her aunt had tickets to a funfair which was held there. the lights were really quite pretty.

girls always understand that much better, you think? i'm really glad she got a bsf class, we've now got dinners (i.e. talk alot of nonsense sessions about what looks set to be our non-legal futures) on thursdays to look forward to.

quentin ORDs today!! he's the last of the boys (almost - shannon doesn't really count, haha) to do so. and i'm feeling rather emo about it - i was smsing him just now about how we're all grown up now (as if).

so, gay as it is, this is a photo tribute to our friendship (again).

the first photo in the trinity is him at jo's surprise birthday party in j1, the second on the last day of acjc - he was the first person i saw that last day - and the last was taken in the heritage room after our last official choir performance in j2.
he's quite the same, really. just a bit fatter, perhaps. he was the one who introduced me to the wonders of black pepper chicken spaghetti from the western stall in the ac canteen and i was the one who, ahem, flourished as a result. it's quite comforting to know that he now sports a double chin and i don't.

i still can't believe they've all ORDed. this is part of the last ever sms he'll send me as an army boy, or any of my friends will send me as army boys, for that matter (bryan your MO time doesn't count alright):

"these two years has been a break from real life in a way, and after this it's pretty much serious work and growing up :) it's a good thing :)"

and so it is. but honestly, it seems like only yesterday they all had no hair and were starving to death in BMT. time really flies.

with a father who has named the family camera "cammy" ("cammie?") and a sister who's named her childhood pillow "mr pillowy" ("pillowie?"), i don't think it's surprising that my brother made the following comments - of course, i do think he's more droll (or lame, whichever way you look at it) than the rest of us - it must be a cummulative effect.

in response to some random uncle at a farewell dinner my dad for his colleague:
uncle: since you like chemistry, why don't you go be a chemist and work in a lab?
brother: no... if i work in a lab, i'll have to face white walls and wear a white lab coat - i'll come out colour-blind.

to me:
brother: clod you should really join miss singapore universe.
mother: jiejie is too short la!!
me: thank you for your undying support mummy.
brother: but at least three of the girls there look like they should be on the swan... or extreme makeover, you know?

when i told jon this jon said my brother was being TOO KIND.

why do we even bother? haha.

ah yes, i forgot to say that i fell off my bike on sunday night because i braked too hard in front of my house. oh well. no major knee scrapes so that's something to be thankful about. got a bit of a shock though. i'm sure you would've too.
yesterday, i got my first inedible gift from jon (does the photocopy of my equity assignment count?). it was quite sweet, really. you see, i told myself that everytime we go out i HAVE to bring tissue paper because it's the girl thing to do (he'll never be one of those guys who bring tissue paper out) but somehow, yesterday, i couldn't really be bothered to do so even though we'd planned to meet for dinner after lcs.

actually, i'm one of those persons who has to wipe their mouths after a meal. maybe that's more of a girl thing? but anyhow i had no tissue paper - and i didn't want to buy a packet. dude, i walk two bus stops to save twenty-two cents on bus fare, would i buy a thirty cent packet of tissue paper when each packet only cost the drink stall uncle about two cents?

yes alright, he bought me tissue paper. i'm going to keep the wrapper. do check back with me in ten years to see whether i still have it.

***
i wore my new court shoes for the first time yesterday, and i now have two very big blisters even though i wore BOTH stockings AND plasters. i walked home barefooted from the bus stop last night because i simply couldn't take it anymore.

which led me to wonder why we put ourselves through so much torture. think about it, we only dress smartly for work because everyone else does. so if we all pakated together to wear jeans, t-shirts and flip-flops, we'd all feel comfy and there's a high chance productivity would increase!

but then, i figured that high heels (pretty high heels, rather) are probably the main reason why so many women drive to work. don't think i'll ever be wearing high heels though, pretty or not. my new court shoes are actually flats - if i can't even not get blisters wearing flats, i don't think i want to see the state of my feet if i wear anything higher. plus driving is expensive and it makes your bum bigger cause you walk less.

anyway, i came up with this theory - i tried vainly to tell jon about it on the bus home last night but he carried on sleeping, so i shall share it in this public domain. if wearing flip-flops becomes the norm, women will stop driving to work - which is good for the environment, but bad for the owners of carparks in the cbd. and bad for car dealers, bad for the government (less coe) - ultimately it'd be bad for the economy. and the price of havianas would increase AGAIN. so maybe having to dress formally isn't such a bad thing after all.

on another note, i know i'm going to sound very swaku saying this but after jon pointed out last night that money is just money i'm seriously thinking of getting the funshine junk food t-shirt even though it's $45 and it's hardly justified. or is it? we'll see :)

and because i think i shouldn't have a post where almost everything is - oh i talked to jon today etc. cause it's really gay, i enjoyed my pre-negotiation negotiation with shah, qijing and valerie at coffee club - it's nice to act lawyerly, especially with people who can talk cock. and thanks to rui for introducing me to the joys of florida natural sweets, although they're really expensive so i don't think i'm going to buy them very often.

i just felt like dropping by my blog today even though i haven't really got anything to say. i'm quite thankful, really, for everything - God's been good and i'll testify to the fact that He DOES ANSWER PRAYER. as long as you ask for things in His name.

today was quite a nice day, really.

i'm quite pleased! on saturday night jon and i were eating ban mian (again) and i discovered that when you put garlic chili and vinegar into the ban mian soup you get ban mian soup which tastes like suan la tang. VERY EXCITING NEWS RIGHT. it is okay. so if you don't really like the starchy texture of suan la tang you can do that. plus the latter's always more expensive, from twenty cents to a dollar more.

today, jon sent me what must be the sweetest sms i've ever received from him.

it read -

"Hey i photocopied your assignment for you," and was sent at 1249, by the time on my phone. that meant that he had walked all the way to the library from block b (it's a very long way!) and he had to spend 32 cents (i think my assignment was 8 pages, so that's 8 times four cents a sheet), which is 8 cents short of a cup of tea/coffee in school.

i smsed back -

"im going to get diabetes."

you can decide for yourself whether i'm being sarcastic or not.

:)

i WAS thinking of going okay, jon, but i have NO TIME and it's at downtown east. like, oh my word. and you didn't even ask quen and i until i found out today from nat that it was on. !!! anyway if you cannot read the poster, flybar's (jon ong is the guitarist) opening for rivermaya on sunday april 8th. they won the singapore leg of the world battle of the bands competition. and john molina and krueger are quite good too, i think they're still the rouge house band - i'll never forget seeing john molina in the locker room having a smoke haha. tattoos and wild hair, rippling muscles and all. SO MACHO. yes and i've heard nice things about rivermaya so if you're free do go down.

sorry dude you have to share honours with yong hong (who's on the right)
i've just read rui's blog and i'm so sad i didn't get to do the "my boyfriend my boyfriend" thing too. BOOHOO. hope she took photos of the turtle, if she did i'll post them. haha.

and i really should, because enoch told me last night that ben liew told enoch that he was one of the better looking guys in school.

........................
aunt to mother, about her daughter: that naughty girl has recently been drawing pictures of breasty women. her drawings of women didn't use to feature them with busoms but - see, look!

i associate the periods in my life with food. last exam period it was khong guan biscuits - the flattish ones with a thin layer of chocolate cream, sugar coated - dipped into endless cups of tehohkosong. if i go back to school to study it'll be that again, i think. but this exam period seems more likely to be defined by gardenia raisin buns. at least i think they're from gardenia. qijing gave me one of his on saturday when i went back to the library. i think yalan likes them too. and instant noodles with ntuc chicken, whatever vegetable i can find in the fridge, and too much vinegar. i'm getting the hang of cooking them.

polar sells sugar rolls without the sugar. what's the point of calling them sugar rolls then?
